Apparently the Subaru systems are set up so that the car will shut off when you come out and open the door. Its a safety feature, but means you end up starting the car twice for no reason. Is this true Benny? I had a factory installed remote start on a Chevy Silverado and this was not the case. Car stayed running when I unlocked and opened the door. Just had to put the key in the ignition and I was good to drive. My GF is like a freaking lizard or some shit and will probably use the remote start any time its below 50 degrees. Can’t imagine starting the car 20, times instead of 10, times is a good idea for the life of the car.
DIY – Installing a Basic Remote Starter
I acutall hooked it all up last weekend. I ran into a few problems alogn the way that made things take longer than they neeed to but I go it all to work. One place that I got messed up was the parkign light- I had two wiring diagrams that showed different color wires so I said forget it and I did nto hook up the parkign lights. They are not needd an only offer a visiual that the engine has started or doors have locked
The high current, heavy-duty push button switch ensures reliable operation and long service life, 5 feet leads made from heavy-duty oil and grease resistant gauge wire, high current clips with protective boots open to an extra wide 5/8 inch for ease of hook-up and soft non-slip rubber grip.
Disclaimer Solve hot-start problems by installing a remote starter solenoid Headers are a great addition to any V8 Chevrolet but they also generate large amounts of heat in the engine compartment. One component that is specifically affected by this heat is the stock GM starter solenoid. Because of its location on the starter, it is very close to the headers.
The heat can cause problems starting your car. Most of the time all you need to do is wait and let the solenoid cool down and the problem goes away. However, this can be annoying and embarrassing and in the long run will kill the solenoid altogether. While starter heat shields help the problem, they don’t solve it. The best solution to the problem is to relocate the starter solenoid to some other location under the hood, away from the heat of your exhaust system.
You obviously can’t move the stock solenoid from a GM starter but you can use a separate, remote solenoid like on a Ford, to control the GM solenoid. Here’s how and why it works: On the GM solenoid, the winding is fed through a resistive lead to the starter from the switch key, which results in less than the 12 volts being applied across the solenoid winding. As the current in the lead increase so does the voltage drop on the lead going to the GM solenoid winding, resulting in less voltage at the solenoid winding, giving less than satisfactory operation.
So, the bottom line is, when the unit gets hot, it draws more current in the lead from the switch to the solenoid winding resulting in less voltage across the solenoid activation coil.

These are no problems. Common practice when RFID keys first came out was to use a universal adapter that attached to one of your spare keys. A wire would then run from this adapter to the keyed ignition.
The table on the following page will show you where to connect the wires from your remote start into the car. Any wires on your remote start that are NOT listed in the table are NOT USED. Helpful Hint: In most cases, the wires on the remote start are way longer than needed.
I ordered the kit part AC, which is a factory kit for , from a chrysler dealership on ebay. Since it was specified for the model year, I assume earlier models are different. Below are a few pics to give you an idea. If you have any questions, I will answer the best that I can. Before receiving the kit, I was talking with a tech at the dealership and he said that the jeep wont start until its programmed and that I may have to tow it in.
Well, I wasn’t thrilled with that and got thinking that there had to be another way.

Wiring diagram Great place to start is the12volt. Example from vehicle wiring. At this point your meter will read 0. Keep the probes connected and turn the light switch on. It will try to start the car 3 times and if it is unsuccessfull after the 3rd try, it turns itself off. Ok, buy this point you should have the courage to start. On with the pics! The car is a Maxima, you see on the left hand side where the remote start brain is mounted, the ignition harness, and brake switch.
This is what would turn the car off if someone where to get into the car while it was running. As soon as the brake is hit, the remote start turns off Closeup of the plug. Not all cars have a plug like this right under the column. Most cars will have one continuous harness with a plug farther down the line, more than likely a bit more out of site.

Oct 11, · The last remote starter I installed had to hook to ignition, ground, another line (I think power) so it knew the car had started, and another line for .
How do you hook up a V light switch? I won’t give instructions on this one because just saying “tie the whites together” can be misleading sometimes the white is used for the hot , as wire colors can have different uses when dealing with switches. Are you trying to switch a dryer? Are you wiring a heavy-duty disconnect for an air-conditioner or a spa? Please explain what you are trying to do.
This question smacks strongly of ignorance. Hire an electrician if wiring a switch is outside of your skill set, es…pacially if you are switching high current loads. I am going to guess what you mean. My best guess is you are looking for the wire size. Are we talking about a

When the button is depressed, that power will transfer down the purple wire to the starter solenoid activating the starter and allowing the engine to start. The second way to make the connection involves the push button starter being hot and able to be activated anytime the battery is connected.
Posted 16 October – The whole point of this is to start up 20min before leaving and having the sheet of ice and snow nicely melted by the time I get into the car. Those zero degree mornings suck when I’m tired and angry while my hands are numb from scraping off ice that seems to chip even the nicest ice scrapers On another note I did notice in my testing that the fan still worked when only the ignition wire was connected so Skishop- I took your advice and decided to cut more wires to where I only had 12v to batt, 12v to ignition, 12v to starter.
I hooked the running-lights 12v back up. Hooked up 12v ACC – it worked fine. After much cutting, I finally determined that the wire I’d tapped into for the running lights was the culprit. I decided I don’t need the “flash” indication that my car is starting when the lights turn on as soon as the car starts anyways. The flashes can be used to indicate problems, but if I’m troubleshooting I can just listen to the relay clicking on and off if needed.
I went back through all my connections, buttoned a few things up, managed the wires to where it’s invisible to the onlooker and semi-clean to my brain that knows what’s behind the kick-panel. This thing is awesome!
